To build muscle mass quickly, every teenagers dream. To build muscle faster that is what we all want for that high school reunion or wedding. I have bad news and good news for you. The idea that you can add a solid inch of muscle to your chest in six weeks is just… well stupid. The idea that you could add some muscle bulk to your upper torso in six weeks, can be done. You can not put on solid muscle mass that quickly in an isolated area. And on top of that, you would look like a jackass if you added one inch to your chest and nowhere else. But let’s say a wanted to bulk up my upper body quickly. How would I go about doing that? Easy, basics to the front and the back.

That is where you would start. The basics. I would work the chest with the bench press and inclines. For the back, I would do bent-over rows and pull-ups or pulldowns. I would perform heavy, heavy reps. The reps would be in the range of five to eight, but that would be heavy five to eight reps. The lite weights will not build the dense thick muscle mass that I would be looking for. I would also do sets of pullovers between the chest and back work to try and add some depth to my chest. The basics would allow me to move the heavyweights that are needed to add muscle mass. This does not need to be rocket science, we are working out. You need to make sure that you are giving it everything you have when you go to the gym. That, in the end, is what matters. The effort. I would make sure that I left everything on the gym floor, hold nothing back. The training routine is simple a couple of basic exercises, heavyweight, and then balls to the wall training. After that last set of the back, go home. Do not dick around with your buddies in the gym get home and eat and rest.

That is the next couple of keys. Food and rest. Make sure you are eating enough. There is no need to eat like a bird when trying to add muscle mass quickly. People do not understand that to add muscle the body needs food. Two number of things to watch for, calories and protein. Two grams of protein per pound of body weight and 25 to 35 calories per pound of bodyweight. After you have torn the body down with the training and eat the correct amount of food to get the body to repair, give it time to grow. That is with proper rest eight hours a night every night.

The truth is that you need to make sure that you are lifting heavy with the basic exercises, that you are giving 100 percent effort in the gym, eating enough calories and protein. Going to bed and getting eight hours of sleep and the muscle mass will come to a lot quicker for you. Then if you waste two hours a day training every chest and back exercise that is known to man and then going home after hanging out with your boys.
